Ironically, the one constant in life is change. Yet, practically nobody likes it because it's often time uncomfortable or even painful.

But, change can bring new and better opportunities -- a renewed commitment to your work, new relationships and more rewards. One trick to coping with changes in your career is to control your personal life.

The next time you find yourself faced with major change in your professional life, consider these tips in your personal life.

(1) Don't take on new personal obligations.

(2) Shed those obligations you currently have that are not critical.

(3) Ask for assistance from others (family, friends, etc.) when you begin to feel overloaded.

(4) Plan a bit of time regularly to have fun, release some stress and renew your spirit.

Being more in control and less stressed about your personal time can give you the additional flexibility you need to cope with professional changes. And, in the organizational context, figuring out ways to effectively cope with change will enhance overall employee morale.
